Rio de Janeiro is our number one place to spend New Years in the world. Every year we try to think about another destination to go but we always end up coming back to Rio and here are the main reasons why:
- UNIQUE CULTURAL SEASONAL SCENE
- GOOD PARTIES
- AMAZING BEACHES
One of the coolest things about being in Brazil during this time of the year is that you get to witness a really particular New Year’s tradition that the Africans passed to Brazilians and now is followed by every single citizen in the country. During New Year’s eve you will see everyone wearing white clothes, it means peace. Also you will see thousands and thousands of people on the sands of Copacabana jumping waves in hopes for good luck as they throw flowers and offerings in the ocean dedicated to Yemanja, the Goddess of the sea. It’s believed also that eating some foods during New Years eve will attract prosperity to people. As you can see Brazilians are very superstitious, but we are also very welcoming and I think this a good opportunity for a traveler to be part of all these traditions and have a deeper understanding of the Brazilian culture. Also this is a very democratic celebration where everybody is invited to join the party and have a good time.

Another thing that keep making us coming back is that Brazilians know how to throw a party. Carnaval for example is the biggest party in the world and it happens every year just a few months after New Years in Brazil. As a Brazilian I can say that our parties are the most fun and I’m not saying that just because I’m from there. There is something about how happy people are that makes everything so much more entertaining. Also there are plenty of options with parties for all the different tastes. So if you want to start your year having blast Rio is the place to be.

Least but not less important, in my opinion Rio is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The city is surrounded by mountains, beaches and lakes. Is super exotic! You literally feel like you are right in the middle of a jungle but actually you are in a big city. Rio is such an unique city in a matter of natural beauties that surround the city. Unfortunately we can’t say the same about safety, but we always stay in areas considered safe like Ipanema or Copacabana which is worthy to minimize the risk. Also is super convenient to be in a good location walking distance from many of the best restaurants, bars and the most beautiful beaches.
