Bali is one of our favorite destinations in the world. We’ve been there several times, and each visit brings a unique experience. It is impossible not to fall in love with this island. Moreover, the Balinese people are incredibly kind and welcoming, providing an unforgettable experience on its own. The beautiful culture, stunning temples, incredible food, breathtaking views, and countless other attractions make Bali an exceptional place to explore.

As Bali holds a special place in our hearts and feels like our second home, we can’t help but share the most beloved aspects of this enchanting island that you simply cannot  miss.

THINGS TO DO IN BALI

1 – Tegalalang terrace rice fields is one of the most beautiful and iconic landscapes of the island. If you never visited Bali before you have to visit this place. You can even hike through the rice fields and ride giant swings as you enjoy the views.

2 – The Monkey Forest is a must see if you are visiting Ubud. If you are a little lost and don’t know what to do in Bali this is a no brainer.  It’s really fun plus  is close to the main street of Ubud and it’s easily accessible if you are staying in the village. The monkeys run free and you can feed them bananas and take pictures with them. Just remember, if you feed them be prepared to have one, two or even ten monkeys jumping on you. I love to see them from close but I wouldn’t be comfortable with monkeys jumping on me so for that reason we didn’t feed them. It’s up to you.

8 – Visit Tirta Empul Temple and participate of the ritual of purification. The spring water runs through 30 showers where people bathe in these 2 pools in hopes of purification. The holy water of this temple is sacred for the Hindu people. Despite religion or beliefs we always enjoy immersing ourselves into the local culture and many times that means walking into temples and wearing funny clothes, watching ceremonies or even jumping in pools. It’s a really cool thing to experience and is crucial to visit some of these places to have a deeper understanding of the local culture, especially in bali where Hindu is huge.

6 – Talking about temples, if you go to the west side of the island like Canggu – one of our favorites villages in the island – go catch the sunset at the Tanah Lot temple. The black sand beaches have an incredible volcanic color, very soft to touch and it sparkles from the combination of minerals.

3 – Tegenungan Waterfall it’s another place that is worthy a visit. It take approximately thirty minutes from Ubud and once you get there you have to go on a short hike downhill to get to the waterfall. On the way back it can be a little challenging since you have to climb back but there are stairs all the way which is very helpful. Also make sure to get there early in the morning to avoid crowds.

5 – Don’t miss the Saraswati Temple in Ubud. It’s hard to believe this temple is right behind a Starbucks. You read it right! Right behind the coffee shop you can find this temple, how very convenient huh? It’s easy to get there and is really beautiful. 9 – Watch a traditional balinese Legong dance. Great dancing, colorful costumes and good Balinese music. This is one of our favorite things to do in Bali. There are many places to watch in the island but the Uluwatu temple is our favorite spot. The sunset is the best time and you get to watch the show from the top of a cliff with ocean views and lots of cuties monkeys running around. It’s very especial.

10 – If you like handmade crafts or musical instruments, we highly recommend hitting up some shops for statues, singing bowls, gongs, jewelry, art and music.  The craftsmanship of the Balinese is some of the best we’ve seen on our travels. We love shopping in Ubud and Canguu but there are many great places to explore and find these sorts of things.

7 – If you feel like partying don’t miss the Potato Head Beach Club in Kuta. It’s one if not the best beach clubs in Bali. The tropical modernist architecture of the building  itself is worth a visit. Besides that they often display really cool art installations and the food is delicious. Go check it out. I hope you enjoyed our Bali Travel Guide.
